Parks and recreation

Mountain Biking
Fantastic scenery and plenty of opportunities for overnight trips staying in DOC huts, make mountain biking a great way to enjoy the outdoors. From easy family rides to adrenalin pumping technical tracks, there is something for everyone.

Conservation campsites are places to relax, enjoy and explore the outdoors. DOC manages more than 200 campsites throughout New Zealand. Choose from forest settings, lakeshores and sandy beaches.

If you have a permit to hunt on public conservation land, there are many places to go and plenty of different species to hunt.

National Parks
New Zealand’s national parks contain some of our most treasured wilderness areas.

Marine Reserves
Find out about and visit New Zealand’s marine reserves. Please note, you are prohibited from fishing or removing or disturbing any marine life in marine reserves.

Fishing Licence
The Taupo fishing season begins on the 1 July each year. Buy your licence online.
